Linde Investing In Heavy Truck Division 28/02/2008
Linde Material Handling have made a decisive bid to capture more of the market in the heavy forklift truck sector by investing EUR21 million into the heavy truck division. To obtain greater control and a stronger position in the global market, Linde will be investing the money into a new product development and production facilities over the next three years. Announcing the significant investment for Linde into the heavy forklift truck industry, Chief Sales Officer Theodor Maurer said in the UK this month, that in the past 14 years, the number of containers being transported has quadrupled. We believe that over the coming years container transport will undergo further significant growth. He went on to say that the principle drivers behind these thrends will be international supply relationships, relocation of production to low-wage countries, an increase in global sourcing and global sales strategies.
Linde forklift trucks will modeled on the basis that individual components and modules will be developed and produced independently of each other, before all the components have been assembled. This means that a chassis can be used in combination with different cabins layouts. This allows for a wider versatility in Linde forklift trucks in that they can be adapted more quickly for each individual application. Linde hope this strategy will help reduce development times and reduce complexity of production. Linde forklift trucks will look to be developing heavy forklift truck models with lifting capacities of 18-37 tonnes, plus one with a 52 tonne lifting capacity. The Linde Heavy Truck Division will aim to have a full production line, up and running by the year 2009. Linde will be producing the new line-up in their Merthyr Tydfill UK site, manufacturing Reach Stackers, Container handlers, Linde Heavy Diesel Forklift Trucks and Sideloaders.
