Grove Access Platforms Fitted To Crane Provide Increased Safety 12/04/2008
Grove platforms have been fitted to the sides of a Grove crane to provide increased accessibility and safety. The platforms, called Grove GMK-5220 All-Terrain Crane Access System are added to both sides of a crane superstructure which provides better access to the crane operator cab and crane engine module. The Grove platform system means the platforms are stowed in a vertical position when the crane is being moved or transported to another site, or the crane or platforms are no longer in use. When needed the Grove platforms can then be unfolded hydraulically to the horizontal position with an easy push button control. The Grove platform also come with additional handrails on either side of the platform with also raise and lower independently very easily with the push of a button. The system is an extremely easy solution to working at height issues and access.
The controls for the GMK-5220 all-terrain crane Grove access system are found on either side at the front of the carrier and in the crane cab. The Dead Man switch as its called, is a function that allows the best operator control and safety. For the crane operator and riggers as well as maintenance crews the working at height issues are always an important factor, the safety access and egress for operation and maintenance of the Grove access platforms help eliminate the risks involved in the height. The hydraulically controlled platforms are also extremely easy to use and simple, as well as having an electrical and hydraulic safety interlock that prevents accidental operation.
